Tomorrow (Tuesday) is my birthday. In honor of my birthday, I feel like doing some sort of special yoga practice. I'm thinking that since I'm turning 28, maybe I'll do 28 Sun Salutations. Since there are endless variations of Sun Salutations, even if I do 28 rounds, I can do something different each time. I'm kinda looking forward to it...
When you first start doing yoga, perhaps most people are nervous or insecure. Maybe they're looking at other people while in a pose, or stopping to relax when things get difficult. Concentrating can be tough. However, when you start doing yoga more, you might find that you start to change. You become more able to look deeper into yourself, and to go in. When you start to do that, that's when you're becoming a yogi.
So, when you practice yoga, always try to be aware of yourself. Constantly ask yourself questions.
- Right now, where are you looking? At the person next to you? Out the window? At the clock? At the really flexible person across from you? At the point the yoga instructor told you to?
- Right now, what are you thinking about? Food? The stuff you have to take care of after yoga? Work? The fight you had with your husband? Your body? Your breathing?
- Right now, how do you feel? Good? Hurting when you stretch your legs? Frustrated? In pain?
If you ask yourself those questions, you can keep returning to the present moment. You can start to understand a little more about the present "you." And that is yoga.
